The sky burned with a sudden brightness, as if the sun wanted to blind them before night had the chance. Harsh shadows and brilliant light surrounded the pair, the gentle wind of a faraway storm playing through their hair.

She grinned, for a precious moment forgetting all that lay behind them and goddess knows what lurked ahead. "Let's rest for a moment and watch the sunset,"she murmured to her companion, moving her fingers through his silky mane and watching violet sparkle through it.

He nodded and came to a standstill beside the black stone wall that divided her kingdom from an unknown fate. She sat upon it, staring at all she had to leave behind. Her smile faded with the sun.
